What if...

Having just read a thought provoking article from No Greater Joy I am struck with the thought "what if". What if we spent more time teaching our children about the Bible and the God of the bible. What would they learn and more importantly what could we learn. There is nothing like trying to teach someone, to make you really learn what you thought you already knew. How much richer would be our relationship with our Father, and moreover how much richer and sweeter would be our relationship with our children. The scriptures are full of the failures of the saints, and at the same time they give such insight into the love and grace of a loving God, that in spite of this constant shortcoming on the part of mankind, our Heavenly Father is so long suffering and patient with us. He is the rule that Corinthians 13 is modeled after. Luke comes to mind in the 11th chapter 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall  your heavenly Fath

Observations of the natural

There are some things that I have noted of late and I will try to make a list (for lack of a more disrupt term) of them. Some are observations from scripture and some just from the chores of the day.   Fire loves company. What I mean by this is that a stack of twigs burn better if they are broken and pulled somewhat closely so one another. The heat from the one burning twig helps the other to maintain its warmth needed to burn. If it's all alone it doesn't fair as well. It will flair up and burn and usually die out. However a cluster of burning twigs will set a blaze to the rest of the wood pile.  Second and in contrast the larger fire wood loves air. If they are nested so close that the embers of the kindling can fall and block the air flow between them they may keep burning but not nearly as bright and hot as if the spacing is maintained. But close proximity is still required to maintain a good burn.  To the first I like to think of the regular gathering of the church. How im

Liberty

I believe that there is a serious misunderstanding about what liberty is even among so called conservatives. Some I would call my friends even. Liberties line is not drawn where there is no conceivable need for something. Liberties bounds should be based on a moral compass that values the liberties of others as well as leaves the holder with unlimited capital to build, invent, own or discover whatever strikes his or her fancy so long as the needs and welfare of those that are in his charge be they wife/children/family are met. Because you have no need of a car that is capable of traveling at the speed of sound should in no way hinder you in your quest of said car. If your desire is to build a (fill in the blank). The lack of a true societal need for said (?) should not preclude you from fulfilling that desire. Now granted the moral dilemma of building a x device is still yours to wrestle with. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. That is between you and your

Meditate on the Word

Time to contemplate. Time to think and consider the things that are happening in the world and in my life. Time to meditate on the Word. Don't let the happenings of life distract you from one of the most important things in this walk with God. Communion.  Are you taking time to meditate on the Word.  I want to be like the psalmist. 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy works and talk of thy doings. And in 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

The wrap up of the second book of Corinthians.

2 Cor. 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. Pretty comprehensive don't you think?

Jesus sending out 70 - 2 by 2

Luke 10:1-3 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

Open my eyes Lord

Open my eyes, that I may see Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me; Place in my hands the wonderful key That shall unclasp and set me free. Refrain 1: Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see, Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine! Open my ears, that I may hear Voices of truth Thou sendest clear; And while the wave notes fall on my ear, Everything false will disappear. Refrain 2: Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see, Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine! Open my mind, that I may read More of Thy love in word and deed; What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead? Only for light from Thee I plead. Refrain 3: Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see, Open my mind, illumine me, Spirit divine! Open my mouth, and let me bear, Gladly the warm truth everywhere; Open my heart and let me prepare Love with Thy children thus to share. Refrain 4: Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see, Open my heart, illumine me, S

Wow just wow

The fine gold of the Christian is oft becoming dim. We need the sacred fire to consume the dross. Let us fly to our God, He is a consuming fire; He will not consume our spirit, but our sins. Let the goodness of God excite us to a sacred jealousy, and to a holy revenge against those iniquities which are hateful in His sight. From morning and evening

Let me tell you about my church

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. This is my church. They are a body of believers that have put on charity. They have over and over exemplified the love of Christ. We are proud and humbled to be a part of Oral Baptist church.

Thought of the day April 1

Titus 2:6-8 From this mornings reading this phrase stood out to me. Pattern of good works We as "young men" should live in such a way that we have a pattern of good works to be recognized by. You can see in others the faults and mistakes pretty easily, but most of the time we fail to see the beam in our own eye. Speaking of beams I have a new reference point having just moved several (over 100) oak beams each weighing just under 100# each. They are of considerable size yet we often over look the thing in our life that is beam-like in size and weight. We however must look to our own lives and be assured that we are leaving behind us a pattern of good works. It should go without saying that works will never earn you salvation. Isa 64:6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be

Psalms 119:105

Thy word  is  a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform  it , that I will keep thy righteous judgments.  This thought had been on my mind in one way or another. The idea of putting Christ first in our lives. Seeking first the kingdom of God. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. We sang a song tonight that I had heard some of the verses of but not the full song. Thy Word by Amy Grant.  Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. When I feel afraid, Think I've lost my way, Still you're there right beside me. And nothing will I fear As long as you are near. Please be near me to the end. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I will not forget Your love for me and yet My heart forever is wandering. Jesus be my guide, And hold me

Matt Walsh: 5 ways men should man up and lead their families

In writing about the “Day Without A Woman” protest earlier, I hit on a particular theme that sparked a fair amount of blow back, even from self-professed longtime readers. I said that the husbands of these left-wing feminist women, who decided to abandon their professional and family duties for the day in order to make some vaguely defined political statement, need to show some leadership in their households. Rather than submissively cooperating with his wife’s decision to put her feminism ahead of her family, a man should offer some guidance. I think I really upset people the most when I used the phrases “be a man” and “put your foot down.” Now, if I had said that women should “put their foot down” in opposing the destructive and counter productive behavior of their husbands (which they should, of course), nobody would be offended. You’re allowed to encourage firm leadership on the part of women, but if you do so for men, using the exact same language, the very people who before sh

3/7/17 The servant of the Lord

2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
